Evangelism With A Heart

Medical Clinic

This is the newest ministry project of Harvesting In Spanish which has been in development over the last few years. The land has been purchased just 1 block away from the Shalom Children's Home and Amilat Christian School, thanks to donors who saw the need and caught the vision.

Shalom Family Medical Center opened in October of 2015 and is staffed by fully licensed medical doctors, as well as 3rd and 4th-year medical students and interns, providing them with the opportunity experience medical care in an international setting, learn tropical medicine, and develop skills in providing care to under-served populations. The center is supported largely through donations.

There are hundreds of unattended sick, diseased, and injured people within a several mile radius of the clinic site.To respond to this problem, a unique partnership between HIS, the Evangelical University of El Salvador, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine was created to provide low-cost and no-cost care to approximately 170,000 people within its service radius. Harvesting In Spanish will provide to administrate the facilities while both universities contribute towards the medical-dental services that are offered.

The medical center has 6 general exam rooms for pediatric and general care, a gyno-obstetric exam room with ultrasound, two dental chairs, an x-ray room, basic pharmacy, clinical laboratory, 2 trauma/emergency bays, administrative offices, staff lounge, 2 classrooms, chapel, and offices for a psychologist and a social worker, staff kitchen, and regular and handicapped bathrooms on each floor.  The next phase of development of the building will allow the center to have an out-patient operating room, patient recovery room, and physical therapy.

How can you make a difference?

There are many volunteer opportunities offered through the medical center including positions as physicians, dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, and lab technicians. If you have experience in Emergency Medicine or Ambulance/Paramedic work, we would welcome you to come and provide training on different topics for our staff. If you are interested in coming to serve for a week or more, please write to us at: info@harvesting.org

Financial assistance is needed and welcome towards the operating expenses of the clinic, and towards the development of the next phase of construction. A matching gifts fund administrated by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County provides matching gifts for any contributions of $500 or greater received by Harvesting in Spanish for the medical center.

"If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?" James 2: 16 (NIV)
